# Editorial policy

Every fact on this site that you might rely on is tied to an official source we have read, with the date we read it. Where we do not have evidence, we say so or leave the subject out.

## The rules we publish under

- **Sources are primary.** Government publications, regulations and official statistical releases. Each citation shows the publisher, the title and the day we read it.
- **No invented numbers.** We do not publish a local price range unless it comes from real, comparable quotes. Where we lack them we publish the method and the factors instead.
- **No rankings.** We do not publish "best" or "top" lists of companies.
- **No pretending to be local.** CityPreferred works nationally. We do not claim an office, staff or crews in a city.
- **Planning assumptions are labelled.** A default in a calculator that is our own assumption says so next to the number.
- **Dates mean review.** The "last reviewed" date on a page changes only when a person has re-checked the page, not when the site is rebuilt.

## When a page is allowed into search

A page for a city and a service is published only when it has local facts you can act on, and it is opened to search engines only when we also work with a company there. A page whose sources are due for review is re-checked or withdrawn.

## Corrections

If something here is wrong or out of date, email [hello@citypreferred.com](mailto:hello@citypreferred.com) with the page and the source. We correct the page and change its review date.

## Machine-readable copies

Every public page has a plain markdown copy at the same address with .md added, carrying the same text and the same sources. The copies exist so the content can be read accurately by tools that do not render a web page. They are not a separate or fuller version.
